Nick Masi, Programs Committee (FY 2010-2012)   Nick Masi was introduced to the nonprofit world in 2003 when he joined the staff at the National Association for Gifted Children.  In the subsequent years, he had numerous roles in the organization and currently is helping to create professional development and parent education opportunities through the use of webinars.  Borrowing from his years as a competitor in national and international martial arts tournaments, as well as his experiences in instructing self-defense classes, Nick also provides services as a coach in the area of personal growth and achievement.  Nick received a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Italian Studies at the University of Rochester before relocating to San Francisco to pursue his graduate career.  Nick earned his M.A. in Asian and Comparative Studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies shorter after.  As a martial arts and self-defense instructor focused on integrating mind, body, and spirit, Nick found a very practical expression for his Eastern philosophical underpinnings in the field of Transformative Education.  Currently, Nick is in the final stages of his Ph.D. dissertation process.  His research interests include Somatic and holistic education as well as education for and as liberation.
