Kathie Panfil, Secretary, and Programs Committee

(FY 2005 – 2011) Kathie Panfil is an educator who has worked extensively in multicultural communities both here in Arlington and in other countries.  Presently, she directs the Parent Leadership Initiative of Escuela Bolivia, a Latino organization focused on family learning.  Kathie worked for 25 years in Arlington Public Schools.  As principal of Key School, she led the establishment of the Two Way Bilingual program.  At Randolph School, she initiated the development of the Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate. Kathie also taught at the Graduate School of Education of the University of Canberra in Australia.  Earlier in her life she lived and taught in Tanzania, Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala and Venezuela.  She received a B. A. from Smith College, an M.Ed. from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. from George Mason University.  She has three children and is the proud grandmother of six grandchildren.
